I’m running because I believe students, educators, parents, and working families in Montebello deserve more. I’ve spent years in public education, as a classroom teacher and as someone who has worked alongside educators and families, and I’ve seen how decisions made by a school board directly affect what happens in our classrooms. I’m running to make sure our schools are fully funded, class sizes are smaller, students with disabilities get the support they deserve, and parents and educators have a real voice in district decisions. Most importantly, I’m running because public education should be about investing in our students and our community, not accepting less and calling it good enough. Students deserve more. Workers deserve more. Our community deserves more.
Montebello Unified students deserve fully funded schools that provide every child with the resources they need to succeed. Too many of our schools face challenges such as large class sizes, staffing shortages, aging facilities, and limited access to arts, music, counseling, and support services. As a school board member, I will fight to prioritize classroom funding, advocate for additional state and federal resources, and ensure that every dollar is used to support students, educators, and school communities. By investing in our schools, we can create safe, modern, and welcoming learning environments that give every student the opportunity to thrive.
Students learn best when they receive individualized attention from their teachers. Yet many classrooms in Montebello Unified remain overcrowded, making it harder for educators to meet the needs of every student. I will advocate for smaller class sizes across the district, especially in our earliest grades where research shows students benefit the most. By investing in more teachers and classroom support staff, we can improve academic outcomes, strengthen student engagement, and create learning environments where every child has the opportunity to succeed.
I will advocate for fully funded and fully supported special education services across Montebello Unified because every student deserves the resources they need to succeed. Too often, special education programs are under-resourced, leaving students, families, and educators without the support they deserve. I will push for stronger staffing, improved training and professional development for special education teachers and paraprofessionals, early identification and intervention services, and equitable access to high-quality supports for all students with disabilities. I also support addressing disparities in special education identification to ensure students are not misclassified due to race, poverty, or trauma. By investing in inclusive, well-funded special education programs, we can ensure that every student has the opportunity to reach their full potential.
chools should be safe, welcoming places where all students can learn without fear or disruption. I will advocate for keeping ICE out of Montebello Unified schools so that students and families can feel secure regardless of immigration status. Schools should be focused on education, support, and trust-building, not immigration enforcement. I will work to adopt clear district policies limiting cooperation with immigration enforcement, train school staff on students’ and families’ rights, and ensure every school has a clear protocol for responding to ICE requests or presence on campus. By ensuring our campuses are protected from ICE presence, we can strengthen school climate, protect vulnerable students and families, and make sure every child has access to a safe and stable learning environment.
I will advocate for culturally responsive education across Montebello Unified that reflects the diversity of our students and communities. This includes expanding and strengthening language pathways and dual-immersion programs so students can learn and maintain languages such as Spanish, English, and other community languages, while also building bilingual and biliterate skills that prepare them for college and careers. I will support stronger partnerships between school districts, colleges, and educator preparation programs to reduce barriers for bilingual teachers and expand the pipeline of qualified educators. I also support protecting and expanding ethnic studies in our schools as an important part of a complete education. Ethnic studies helps students understand the histories, cultures, and contributions of diverse communities while improving engagement, academic outcomes, and sense of belonging. I will defend inclusive, standards-aligned curriculum that reflects the lived experiences of Montebello students and ensures that all students see themselves represented in what they learn.
Strong schools are built through meaningful collaboration with families, educators, students, and the broader community. I will advocate for transparent and participatory decision-making processes that include regular town halls, community forums, and advisory committees so that parents and community members have a real voice in shaping school policies and priorities. I also support expanding family support services such as parent education programs, childcare resources, and after-school opportunities, while strengthening partnerships with local organizations to help families access housing, economic, and social support when needed. In addition, I will ensure strong language access across Montebello Unified so that all families can fully engage with their schools, regardless of the language they speak, while also expanding dual-language and multilingual programs that promote bilingualism and cultural pride among students.
